AKO Webmail

AKO (Army Knowledge Online) webmail allows the members of the army to exchange mails with other people. It is important to note that people contracted to the US army have no other means to exchange information due to security reasons. AKO webmail allows the army members to exchange information in the form of a simple text, audio or video. The webmail is accessible through a normal internet connection; however there are layers of security in order to provide maximum privacy and security. In order to have an AKO webmail account, it is important to be an active or retired member of the army. Lots of important documents are also required while signing up, like the passport and the driving license. You are required to enter some basic information about yourself i.e. name, address, date of birth, sex and some other important information along with your passport and driving license number. The main website related to army knowledge online webmail also provides several tutorials in order to make the signing process easier.

Security of AKO Webmail

The security of AKO webmail consists of two layers of security. One is the basic security layer asking for the username and the password. This is the basic level of authentication and is present in any mail client. However the presence of another layer of security makes AKO webmail different from rest of the mailing clients. The department of defense (DOD) is responsible for providing all the members related to the army with a Common Access Card. This CAC is used as an ID and at the same time also acts as the second layer of security for the AKO webmail.
